Universal Showdown Beginner Learning Order
Start with shared keybinds. Do not make Cosmic Form your first homework.
New players open Universal Showdown, see Shinji on the title, see Cosmic tags in the search bar, and try to skip the boring week. That skip is how you lose to someone who only knows punch, dash, and block. This page is a learning order, not a power ranking. It sits next to the PvP snapshot on purpose. The PvP page tracks official spotlight. This page tracks what you should touch first after the 26 January 2026 launch state of a still-unpublished full roster.
The honest beginner answer is uncomfortable: the easiest fighter is the one whose shared inputs you can already perform. Official keybinds are the same public layer for everyone. Left click punches. Q dashes, and Q is the evasive / ragdoll cancel while you are ragdolled. G is Ultimate. F blocks. Double-tap W runs. B opens the emote wheel. If those six actions are sloppy, no Cosmic tag will save the set. Drill them with the combat guide and the getting started walkthrough before you argue about names.
Learning order, not letters of strength
First: the shared kit on any character you already have. Do not wait for a perfect unlock. Play the fighter sitting in your inventory and spend a session only on movement and defense. Run to create space. Block on a readable approach. Dash to leave a whiff. Use the ragdoll cancel when you are already on the floor, not as a panic mash in neutral. Ultimate is a resource you should recognize, not a button you hold for a highlight clip.
Second: confirmed named fighters you can practice without chasing a form. Official tags give you Shinji, KJ, and Jun as real names in this game. Shinji is the current update branding, so lobbies will be full of people who clicked the thumbnail. That makes Shinji a good study partner and a noisy first main. KJ and Jun are quieter on the title card and still confirmed. They are reasonable practice names if you already have them. None of the three get a fake “easiest special move” paragraph here, because this wiki will not invent a moveset.
Third: the official secret prompt, after you can already fight. Like the game for the secret character. That is the public instruction. It is not a code list, not a Trello, and not a reason to ignore fundamentals. When you are ready for the hunt, use secret characters, the secret character guide, and how to get characters. Badge names attached to the experience include Stargazer, The Conquered, Fracture of Tundra, and Owner Approved. Those names are real. Step-by-step badge routes that this page does not have will not be invented to fill space.
Last: Cosmic Garou / Cosmic Form as a later chase. Official tags confirm the names. Visibility is high. That is why Cosmic sits in A on the PvP snapshot. It is also why beginners should not start there. A tagged form attracts players who already know other battlegrounds and will import habits from The Strongest Battlegrounds. Those habits may be wrong here. Read Cosmic Garou so you know what is confirmed, then put the form back on the shelf until your dash and block are boringly consistent.
What “easier” is allowed to mean
Easier means fewer extra goals on day one. It does not mean a hidden stat that makes one confirmed name deal less damage. This wiki has no public damage table to quote. Easier also does not mean “pick whoever is free in a thumbnail this week.” Branding changes. The Shinji update page is the place to watch title-card changes. Your first-week plan should survive a retitle.
Easier does mean: stay inside Universal Showdown. Jump Showdown, The Strongest Battlegrounds, and Universal Battlegrounds will teach you the wrong lobby, the wrong shop, and sometimes the wrong Cosmic story. If a tutorial never shows this game’s like-for-secret line or this game’s keybind list, close it.
Store facts that matter to beginners are short. Emotes and spins have equal chance and no duplicates, so you are not “behind” because a spin looked rare. Gamepasses on the store include Awakening Outfit and Early Access; this page will not invent their combat math. Playable devices listed by the game include console, PC, and mobile, so your first job is to bind the same six actions on the device you actually use.
A first-week practice loop
Use the character compare tool only after you can describe the shared kit without looking it up. Then pick one confirmed name you already own and stay there for several sessions. Watch how often you get ragdolled because you forgot Q. Watch how often you eat a punish because you never held F. Watch how often you burn G as a greeting. Those three notes will improve your win quality more than swapping to a Cosmic thumbnail.
If you like the game, claim the official secret prompt and stop. Do not chain badge names into a made-up questline tonight. The next teaser line is “The first sight of something out of this galaxy.” That is a future headline, not a beginner assignment.
When you feel the shared kit in your hands, return to the Tier List Hub and read the PvP letters as social information: people will pick Shinji because the update says Shinji. You do not have to pick Shinji to learn how to play. You have to stop chasing Cosmic Form until your basics survive a public server.
Keep this page bookmarked as a restraint tool. The day you want a new main, reread the order: shared kit, confirmed name you already have, secret after the like, Cosmic later. If a clip tries to reverse that order, the clip is entertainment. This ranking is the slower path that still works when the roster is only partly published.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Who is the easiest character in Universal Showdown?
The easiest start is the shared keybind layer on any fighter you already own. This wiki will not invent a beginner moveset or a fake stat that crowns one name.
Should I unlock Cosmic Form first?
No. Official tags confirm Cosmic Garou / Cosmic Form, but it is a later chase. Learn punch, dash, block, and ultimate first via the [combat guide](/guides/combat/).
Is Shinji a good first main because of the update?
Shinji is the current branding, so you will see the name often. That is useful for study, not a promise that Shinji is the simplest kit. See the [Shinji page](/players/shinji/).
When should I go after the secret character?
After you can already fight. Like the game for the official secret prompt, then use the [secret character guide](/guides/secret-character/). Do not skip basics to hunt badges.
Can I use a beginner list from another battlegrounds game?
No. Jump Showdown, The Strongest Battlegrounds, and Universal Battlegrounds are different games. Their easy-mode advice does not apply here by default.
